Sosis Bandari

Sausage chunks cooked with potatoes, onions, and peppers in a spicy tomato sauce seasoned with turmeric, curry, or cumin, served in a bread roll.

Sosis Bandari is a spicy Iranian street food dish made from sliced sausages sautéed in a rich, fiery tomato-based sauce seasoned with turmeric, chili, and sometimes curry powder. Popular in southern Iran, particularly in port cities along the Persian Gulf, it’s typically served in a baguette-style roll as a sandwich. Despite being made with hot dogs or similar sausages, Sosis Bandari is more of a sausage stew than a classic hot dog—but it fits into the same fast, handheld food category. The name “Bandari” refers to its coastal origins (from “bandar,” meaning port), where it was influenced by trade routes and imported spices. It’s bold, messy, and deeply satisfying—like a Persian chili dog turned up to eleven.
