Puerto Rican-Style Dog

Hot dog topped with seasoned ground beef (carne molida), sauerkraut, stewed onions, potato sticks, and mayo-ketchup, a Boricua street staple.

The Puerto Rican-Style Hot Dog—often found at kiosks and roadside stands across the island—is a vibrant, maximalist take on the American classic. It typically features a standard beef frank loaded with toppings like ketchup, mayo, mustard, chopped onions, shredded cheese, potato sticks, and sometimes even cabbage, corn, or diced ham. The result is a textural overload that balances sweetness, saltiness, and crunch in every bite. This style reflects Puerto Rico’s broader street food culture, where bold flavors and generous portions reign supreme. It’s especially popular at food trucks, festivals, and beachside snack stands. Often eaten late at night, it’s both a meal and an event.
