Southwest Chili Dog

Hot dog topped with green or red chile sauce, cheese, and onions, a style popular in New Mexico.

The Southwest Chili Dog is a spicy, flavor-packed take on the classic chili dog, inspired by the bold flavors of the American Southwest. It usually features a grilled hot dog topped with smoky chili made from ground beef or chorizo, fire-roasted green chiles or jalapeños, cheddar cheese, and sometimes onions or sour cream. While chili dogs are a national staple, this regional variant draws on ingredients like Hatch green chiles and chipotle to bring a distinctly Southwestern kick. It’s especially popular in Arizona, New Mexico, and parts of Texas. The dog reflects the region’s fusion of Mexican and cowboy cuisines, with a strong emphasis on heat and depth of flavor. It’s less about tradition and more about unapologetic flavor overload.
