Paulista

Hot dog with mashed potatoes (purê de batata) spread, corn/peas (milho/ervilha), crispy potato sticks (batata palha), and vinagrete, a São Paulo, Brazil style.

The Paulista hot dog is a maximalist São Paulo street food staple, often sold from carts and food stands throughout Brazil’s largest city. It typically features a boiled or grilled hot dog topped with mashed potatoes, corn, peas, grated cheese, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, and crispy potato sticks (batata palha). Some versions even include quail eggs, bacon bits, or vinaigrette-style salsa. The style reflects São Paulo’s love for layered, hearty, and affordable street eats, with flavor and texture in every bite. While “Paulista” refers to anything from São Paulo, this hot dog style is uniquely associated with the city’s fast-paced urban food culture. It’s chaotic, overstuffed, and absolutely beloved.
