Jackson Coney

The Jackson Coney Dog features a beef and pork hot dog in a steamed bun topped with a thick, beanless meat chili, yellow mustard, and onions. It's a heartier, mildly spiced take on the Michigan Coney legacy.

The Jackson Coney Dog hails from Jackson, Michigan—one of the state's earliest Coney hubs—and claims a legacy just as old as Detroit's. Its chili is typically a thicker, more cohesive meat sauce, often made with ground beef or beef and pork, but without beans. It leans toward milder spicing compared to Detroit or Flint, offering a more balanced, stew-like topping. The dog itself is often a beef-pork blend with a soft casing, served in a plain steamed bun with the familiar mustard and diced onions. While it never gained the national notoriety of its Detroit cousin, Jackson's take remains beloved locally and has been continuously served for over a century. It bridges the gap between Flint's dryness and Detroit's sauciness—offering a middle ground with a loyal following.
