Dominican Republic Hot Dog

Frank simmered in seasoned broth, then in a bun spread with ketchup, mustard and mayo; topped with cabbage, onions, sweet corn and tomato, sometimes cheese or bacon. Classic DR cart style.

The Dominican-style hot dog, often called “hot dog dominicano,” is a vibrant street food found at night stands (known as “picapollo” or “pica pollo” spots) across the Dominican Republic. These hot dogs are typically boiled or grilled and served in a bun with a mountain of toppings like shredded cabbage or lettuce, onions, tomatoes, ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, and sometimes hot sauce or cheese. Potato sticks or corn are also common add-ons, giving them a hearty crunch. While not as globally recognized as other Latin American hot dog styles, they’re deeply loved in the DR, especially after a night out. The style reflects the country’s love of bold, saucy, and layered flavors. It’s a street food celebration—messy, filling, and made to order.
