Perro Caliente Venezolano

Street hot dog stacked with slaw, crushed potato sticks or chips, and sauces (salsa rosada, garlic, cheddar), plus corn or onions, a Venezuelan style.

The Perro Caliente Venezolano is a legendary late-night street food that turns the hot dog into a full-on feast. Found all over Venezuela—from Caracas to Maracaibo—it usually features a boiled or grilled sausage on a soft bun, buried under toppings like shredded cabbage, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, garlic sauce, cheese, crushed potato chips, onions, corn, and even quail eggs or bacon. Each vendor has their own twist, but the common theme is excess—more toppings, more flavor, more personality. It’s messy, festive, and practically a national institution. If you’re eating it without a dozen napkins, you’re doing it wrong.
